Woodpigeons migrating over Portland Bill (Martin Cade)
Following up the recent emails I have published on this thread, a total of at least 4,000 WOODPIGEONS flew high south over Portland Bill (Dorset) today, clearly indicating that the migration of this species is now in full swing (see Martin Cade's photograph on the Portland Bill website and his comments regarding the height these birds are departing at).
This is an annual event as many of you are aware and will involve many thousands of birds over the coming two weeks, many of which are migrating from Central and Eastern Europe, Scandinavia and Western Russia and will ultimately end up in warmer wintering climes of central and southern Spain, particularly in the Cork Oak woodlands south of Madrid.
