Another big day for WOODPIGEON emigration

Over 8,000 WOODPIGEONS departed to the south today as they headed out over the English Channel from Portland Bill (Dorset) this morning. Martin Cade was able to capture these really evocative images as they headed out over the Observatory and later the sea.
This annual migration between Scandinavia, the Baltic states and western Russia and warmer climes in southern France and Iberia continues for about 6 weeks in autumn, generally petering out by the second week of November.
